Dr. Vanaster Mae McDonald, 60, of West Main Street, passed away April 8, 2017 at Waterbury Hospital.

She was born December 2, 1956 in Lunenburg County Virginia daughter of the late George McDonald Sr. and Mary E. Shell.

She was educated in the Waterbury Public School system where she graduated from Kennedy High School. She obtained a Master's Degree in Science in Human Services, Specializing in Management of Nonprofit Organizations, a Master's Degree in Business Administration, and a PH.D. in Divinity. Vanaster worked many years as a HUD Inspector and then as a Manager of the Waterbury Housing Authorities until she retired. She was a member of Community Tabernacle Outreach Center in Waterbury. She was a woman of God who loved the Lord. She was a caring person who loved spending time with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory; one daughter; Leasha McDonald and her fiancé, Lynval Brissett, one son; Rah-Heem McDonald, four brothers; George McDonald, Jr., Randy (Dorothy) McDonald, Joe (Yasmine) McDonald and Raymond McDonald, seven grandchildren; Zhahquez Curry, Zhahnazia Curry, Zhalyn Brissett, Olivia McDonald, Victorious Trotman-McDonald, Rah-Heem Aden McDonald, Jr. and Ka-reem McDonald, two aunts; Shirley Bennett of Waterbury and Ruth Tisdale of Kenbridge Virginia, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
