Rev. Orabelle Green was born on November 18, 1932 in Hobbsville, North Carolina and departed this life on August 29, 2018 in Tucson, Arizona after a brief illness. She was born a daughter to the late John "Slim" Green and Sarah F. (Ward) Green.
Rev. Green graduated from T.S. Cooper High School in 1949 at the age of 16. Upon arriving in Waterbury, she became employed by I. Dibner and Son Clothing Manufacturer and then worked for the State of Connecticut until she retired in 2003. She then joined Zion Baptist Church in 1950. She served as a Sunday School, Church School and Evangelism teacher, Youth Advisor for 15 years, President and active member of the Senior Missionaries, Coordinator of the Zion Baptist Girl's Club, President and active member of the Gospel Chorus and member of the Traveling Choir, member of the Scholarship Committee, former member of the Usher Board, Senior Choir and First Aide Unit, she also served as Women's Day Chairperson, assistant advisor and teacher to the Young Women's Missionary Circle. She has also served on many committees and organizations throughout the state of Connecticut. Rev. Green was licensed as an evangelist on February 29, 1992 at Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. S. P. Petteway, ordained at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Tucson, AZ on August 5, 2012 by the Rev. Marlon Harmon and was conferred as Emeritus by Friendship on February 4, 2018 by her pastor Rev. Dr. Orante Jenkins.
While in Arizona she served as the President and Vice-president of the Southern District Association Congress of Christian Education as well as a certified teacher in the Paradise Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arizona working towards her certification as Dean. She has been invited to speak throughout the state of Ct., New York, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Arizona. Rev. Orabelle Green was a resident of Tucson, AZ and a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church from 2004 up until her death on August 29, 2018.
She was the loving mother to J. Tracy Green of Bloomfield, CT, F. Lynn Green-Lee of Tucson, AZ. and Mother-in-law to Anita Green, she leaves one grandson Justin and one granddaughter Morgan, several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Tallie Mae Green, and Jessie Green and a brother John F. Green.
