Mr. Michael L. Callands, 52, of Pleasant Street Danbury, made his transition on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Regional Hospice after a long illness surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte (McCrea) Callands.

Mr. Callands was born March 24, 1964 in Danbury a son to the late Theodore Callands Sr. and Lucy (Harris)(Callands) Douglas.

Michael of Mike as he was known by all was educated in the Danbury public school system. After graduating, Mike joined the United States Army National Guard where he served for four years. Making a career change he attended and also became a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY. He then began his career in the food industry working for Marriott Food Services for 17 years and most recently the Olive Garden as assistant kitchen manager for seven years. He had a passion for cooking especially cooking outside where he showed off his culinary skills. Mike was also a car enthusiast. He loved sports cars with NASCAR being his favorite. He enjoyed Monday night football with his friends, riding his bike and playing golf. Michael was member of New Hope Baptist Church and also a member of Carter L. Marshall Lodge of Elks #1556 where he was Elk of the year in 1992 and 1996. He also served as Exalted Ruler and also the Financial Secretary. Michael loved life and he loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with them all. Mike will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Besides his wife of one year and a half and loving companion and beloved soulmate of 34 years, Charlotte, he leaves to cherish his memory their five children; Michael L. McCrea, Mashiya S. McCrea, Marquese Callands, Mariya McCrea, Malaysia McCrea all of Danbury, five grandchildren; Michael McCrea, Precious McCrea, Jae'onnah McCrea, Zamya Bishop all of Danbury, Elias Garcia of San Diego, five brothers; Theodore Callands Jr., Donald Callands both of Danbury, Danny (Diane) Ross of Charlotte, NC, Travis (Shanita) Callands of Detroit, MI, Kevin Callands of Royal Oak, MI, two sisters; Evelyn Ross of Charlotte, NC, Tanya Callands of Fraser, MI, goddaughter Tasada Chapman of Danbury, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.
