Mr. McKenely "Kenny" Dawson, 85, passed away, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. He was the widower Dorothy (Dunn) Dawson.
Kenny was born May 14, 1934 in Atworth, GA, a son to the late Mack and Rosetta (Wynn) Dawson
.
He was educated in Cleveland, TN where he worked on a horse ranch raising and breeding horses. The family who owned the ranch loved him and he loved and cherished them as well so much that they named a race horse after him, "Kenny Dawson" who continues to be a famous show horse. He relocated to Waterbury in 1966 where he resided until his passing. He was employed at Joe's Tire Shop for 19 years, and Santoro Brothers for many years, before opening his own tire business, "My Tire Man" in 1988. He served his community until 2014 when he turned the business over to his grandson, Tyrone McCormick. Kenny as he was known by all was a kind, loving, generous person with a great sense of humor. He was an avid Lakers fan. He had the dream of his life come true when he attended a Lakers game in NY this year. He was a strong proud man who fought until the very end.
Kenny leaves to cherish his memory children; Delilah (Calvin) Jarrett, Denise Dawson, Melanie Mamone, Kendrick Cruz, Gregory Dunn Sr. all of Waterbury, Janice Foster, Kenneth (Doris) Foster both of Ashville, NC., Jan Ware, Jeffery Ware both of Indianapolis IN., Amanda Cruz of Hartford, CT, special daughter/granddaughter Tanya Dawson of Waterbury, thirty two grandchildren, forty three great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends. "My Tire Man" with his generous, helpful spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by daughters Deborah Dunn, Karen Ware, granddaughter, Naquita Davis-Sells brothers Charles Dawson and Roy Lee Dawson.
