Deacon Mary Jane (Richardson) Burke, 91, of Waterbury, slipped away from time into eternity on December 8, 2017 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Mr. Lawrence Burke.

She was born October 17, 1926 in Darlington, SC. to Mr. Jordan & Elizabeth (Bishop) Richardson.

The family relocated to Waterbury when she was a youngster and she resided here until her passing. She attended local schools graduating from Leavenworth High School. Mary Jane lived a life of a servant believing that "only what you do for Christ will last". She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church for over 80 years serving in various capacities. There was nothing that could be done that was beneath her. She served faithfully as a Deacon, Usher Board Member, Sunday School Teacher and many more. For ove 20 years she served with Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries (GWIM), volunteering weekly at the local Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry. She truly embodied a servants mentality. Even in her senior age, she found joy in being a companion weekly to those in need of assistance and aide. Among her love for the church, she loved her family just as much. She was a mother indeed.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son Briarsen A. Burke and loving daughter-in-law, Wanda McPherson-Burke, two grandsons; Briarsen D. Burke, Sr. and Colby Burke; three great grandchildren; Braylynn, Zi'Yair and Elijah Burke, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
