Mrs. Lucille Gray 73, of North Main Street, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Mr. Cornelius Gray.

Mrs. Gray was born May 22, 1943 in Walterboro, SC a daughter to the late Josh and Marie (Williams) Brown.

Lucille was born one of eight children born to Marie and Josh Brown. She was educated in the SC public school system. At the age of fourteen she and one of her older sisters were sent to New York with family to find work to help support her family back in South Carolina. She was employed by a doctor as his secretary and she also cared for the Doctor's children for many years. At the age eighteen Lucille met the love of her life, Cornelius Gray, whom she married and from this union they produced and raised eight children. After relocating to Waterbury where she resided until her passing, she attended and helped several churches in the area. Lucille loved God and loved reading the word. Lucille loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Holidays were special to her. This is when she cooked all her favorite dishes for her family. Whenever you stopped by to visit, you were always more than welcome to help yourself. She was a loving, giving and caring woman who will truly be missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters; Francine Powell, Margret Denise Powell and Debbie Gray, four sons; Cornelius Powell, Clifton Powell, John Gray and Jessie Gray, thirty grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, four sisters, Maybell Jamerson, Shirley Brown, including Mary Rane and Welliemina Brown her cousins who were raised as her sisters, one brother; Josh Brown, several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by one daughter; Mary Powell Mose, three sisters; Ethel Lane Kelly, Mary Ruth James, Eva Davis and Marlene Jones her cousin who was also raised as her sister.
