Mr. Leroy Chapman, 79, passed away, Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Chapman was born December 27, 1936 in Society Hill, SC a son of the late Robert J. and Lizzie (Greene) Chapman.

Leroy was educated in the South Carolina public school system. He relocated to Waterbury at the age of 18 where he resided until his passing. He was born the only son and grew up with seven sisters. He was truly a "Mamas" boy who could do no wrong and was spoiled by his seven sisters. In his earlier years he worked for Marino's Body Shop of Waterbury and Eastern Metals in New Haven. After retirement he became a handyman and did various jobs throughout the area. He enjoyed cooking southern cuisine. His favorites were greens, fish and cornbread. He was a very outgoing person who would befriend everyone he met. Leroy was a loving and easy going man who loved to walk everyday. He enjoyed fishing and looked forward to cooking his catch. Dancing was another favorite pastime along with spending time with his family. Leroy enjoyed telling stories and was labeled the family story teller. During his long life, he met many people and will be missed by not only his family but all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, five sisters; Elizabeth Chapman and Delores Mullen both of Waterbury, Mary Ann Haynes of Hartford, CT, Virginia Hancock of Bronx, NY and Vivian Pegues of Egg Harbor, NJ, several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends. He was predeceased by two sisters; Naomi Carraway and Geneva Marshall.
