Mr. Irving J. Sands, 59, of Center Street, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital.

Mr. Sands was born May 10, 1957 in Waterbury a son of the late John Pope and Claudine Sands.

Mr. Sands was educated in the Waterbury public school system and was a 1975 graduate from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School. While in school, he participated in track and basketball. Irving continued his education obtaining a BS in Business Administration at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. He resided in Atlanta, GA for many years before returning back to Waterbury where he resided until his passing. Irving enjoyed listening to jazz music, writing poetry and spending time with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his voice, loud laughter and his favorite saying "what you know good".

Irving leaves to cherish his memory, one brother; Cornelius Sands of Waterbury, five sisters; Carla Montaque of Oakville, Tajuana Sands, Claudette Sands, Bernadette Sands and Selicia Sands all of Waterbury, several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by one brother, Nathaniel Pope, three sisters; Shirley Davis, Betty Alexander and Marion Darden.
