Ethel Irene Rountree "Tommy" 69 entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 7, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was in the company of her loving daughter Tava Rice.
Ethel was born on February 26, 1949 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to the late Beulah Mae Rountree-Bryant.
She attended the Elizabeth City public school system and continued her education at Elizabeth City University from which she graduated. Ethel later relocated to Waterbury, CT in the mid 70's where she attended Naugatuck Valley Community College and obtained her A.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked for N. O. W. Inc. as a teacher's assistant for their Early Childhood Programs from 1979 until her retirement in 2015.
Ethel was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend that put God first. She was loved by her daughter, Tava and son Dino. She was adored by her grandchildren who felt she could walk on water she did know wrong in their eyes. As far as her many nieces and nephews were concerned there wasn't a problem she couldn't help them solve or a secret she couldn't keep and never judged them or anyone else. She was a woman that opened her doors, heart and arms to people in need.
Ethel was a proud member of the Burning Bush Church & served as "Mother" to the church congregation. Tommy as she was affectionately known as loved, shopping, cooking, traveling, trips to the casino & most of all her family, she always enjoyed traveling back home to be with family. She was known to many as Ma, Aunt Tommy, Grams, G-Ma & Ms. Ethel she will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was the heart and soul of the Berkeley Knights Drill Team & Drum Corps where she was the Administrative Director for over 30 years. When Berkley Knights Drill Team was marching she was marching and cheering them on in everything they did from practice, fundraising to road trips she was always there for them with a great big smile and discipline with love when needed.

She leaves behind to continue her legacy one son Marcus "Dino" Rountree, one daughter Tava (Ronald) Rice; four grandchildren, Marcus "Spunky" Rountree Jr., Damel Rountree, Davion Rountree and Shania Gray; one brother Arthur Bryant, one sister Beulah (Lycell) Johnson; two adopted children Harvey Saunders Jr. and Tawanda Johnson (Taylor, Jay & Kendrick) a special niece Matesha Davis and host of nieces, nephews family & friends. Her best friend for 30 years Dorothy "Dot" Knight; Ethel is predeceased by her two sis Louise Burrus & Pastor Annie Brown.
