Mrs. Dorothy Mae Smith 85, of Center Street, Waterbury, surrounded by her family, passed away on February 23, 2019, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was the loving companion of the late Harry Gatling Sr.

Mrs. Smith was born February 15, 1934 in St. Louis Mo., to the late Riley and Nancy Pruitt of St. Louis, Mo.

In 1962, Dorothy relocated to Waterbury where she resided until her passing. While in Waterbury, Dorothy worked private duty as a Home Health Aide for many years, and had a passion for taking care of others. She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist church. In her spare time she enjoyed attending church, playing bingo, watching UCONN girls basketball (she was a fan), and spending time with her grandchildren and family, and was a loving "mom" to many.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Smith, and Darlene Dyson, three sons; Martin Pruitt, Harry (Tasha) Gatling Jr. of Charlotte, NC and Barry (Sharon) smith all of Waterbury, seven grandchildren; Kiana Boyle, Jermaine Smith, Jeanette Ross, Karlnisha Daniels, Shi-karla Daniels, Martin Paris, and Syril Hunter all of Waterbury, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, family, and friends whom she considered family.
