Mr. Curtis Gaines, 64, of Center Street, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 9, 2018 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Brenda (Banks) Gaines.

Curtis impacted everyone he came across through his generosity and warm demeanor. He was born in Greenville, SC and raised in Hartford, CT but later moved to Waterbury where he resided until his passing. He attended Hartford High School and then studied Occupational Education finishing in 1971. If you were lucky to meet Curtis then without a doubt you experienced the joy he could bring into your life. The pleasure of his company alone would improve your outlook, charging a room with boundless positive energy. In this sense Curtis was a rare person. He opened his arms and his home to anyone in need, instantly becoming a father figure to all of the neighborhood children.

Curtis enjoyed fishing, swimming and drawing. He loved to cook as well. He had his own ice cream truck and hotdog stand. Family meant the world to him. Most importantly Curtis was the patriarch of his adoring family. He leaves behind the love of his life of 32 years, Brenda, Linda Ann Atkins, Damont (Maria) Kimble of FL, Ashley Dailey of Hartford, Michael Banks, Dana Gaines and Ebony Gaines all of Waterbury. He also leaves behind three granddaughters; Suryi Banks (10), Jayla Harris (2), Zoe Chanel Southerland (6 month). He was the son of the late Muriel and Samuel Gaines and the brother of Lavinia Nash of Bloomfield, CT, Raymond (Diane) Gaines of Bloomfield, CT and the late Samuel Gaines Jr. In addition, Curtis was a part of a large and loving extended family.
