Mr. Benjamin Rhodes Jr., 63, of Waterbury, the loving husband of Linda (Thompson) Rhodes, was called to heaven suddenly in Waterbury after a brief illness on Friday, February 2, 2018.

Born on Friday July 2, 1954 in Waterbury, son to the late Benjamin F. and Eunice (Hofler) Rhodes, he was given the name Benjamin F. Rhodes Jr. He was an adventurous child. Some would say mischievous but he would say he was simply curious. He was drawn to sports at an early age starting with Football but eventually gravitating to baseball and basketball. Ben was better known as Junior to his family and friends but his college friends referred to him as "Chubby B".

He was educated in Waterbury public school system, graduating from Crosby High School. He then went on to Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. During college, he was a talented DJ, opening up for several famous acts that visited the University. Ben retired from Northeast Utilities in 2012 after many years of service but continued to run his successful tax preparation business, Neb's Financial Service. Ben was an active member of Grace Baptist church, holding the title of Deacon and holding seats on several other boards. He held several titles locally over the years such as Commissioner of Human Rights for the state of Connecticut, Commissioner of Inland Wetlands & Watercourses in the city of Waterbury, Justice of the Peace, and President of Hearth Homes which is an assisted living facility in Waterbury. Ben was an avid NY Giants and METS fan but enjoyed all variations of sports. He loved UCONN basketball and never missed a televised game. He enjoyed nature and would jokingly talk to animals. More than everything, he loved his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren. During his life he touched many, many people with his kind heart and spirit. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, Linda of 38 years, he is survived by his three sons; Ethan (Andrea) Zimmerman, Marc (Bernadette) Butler, Benjamin F. Rhodes III, six grandchildren; Taylor, Erin, Ragan, Paige, Xavier, Ian, his only sister; Leatrice (Rhodes) Durham, two sisters-in-law; Trena and Alberta, God Daughter, Shakiel Fikes-Scott, his special niece Jurnee Green, several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by brother Henry A. Rhodes and son Michael H. Rhodes.
