Waterbury: Ms. Barbara Mae Stevens Hughes, 77, of Bishop Street passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at her home.

Barbara was born August 4, 1950 in Waterbury CT to Herman Saunders and Mary Elizabeth Lewis.

Barbara as she was to others but was known affectionately as Bobby to her loved ones attended school in the Waterbury Public School System. She was a graduate of Wilby High School. She worked various jobs throughout the Waterbury area. Barbara always seemed to keep herself busy. She was a member at Grace Baptist Church for many years, sung in the choir and was their Secretary. During her free time she loved to play Solitaire, do word puzzles, read books, and watch television. Some of her favorite television shows were old western flicks and Gospel shows. Although she had an issue with walking and couldn't go to church that still didn't stop her from praising the Lord. Usually she would sit in her favorite chair and praise God by watching TD Jake every Sunday. She would say with a little chuckle, "See baby I still made it to church." Barbara was a woman of God and loved her family unconditionally especially her children and grandchildren. She had a big heart and would always extend a helping hand to others. Her joy was seeing others happy and she tried her best to do so. She will truly be missed by all that loved and knew her.

To cherish her memories she leaves her children: Mary Stevens, Barbara Stevens Hurdle, Kent Hughes, Jamal Minnifield, and Maurice Rose; thirty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a host of extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by one daughter Akeem Hughes.
