Mr. Arthur P. "Junior" Turner Sr., 82 of Newport News, VA formerly of Waterbury, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 after a brief illness. He was the widower of Mary L. (Wilkerson) Turner.
Arthur P. Turner was born in Winnfield, Louisiana on September 3, 1937 to the late Phene and Vida (Kelly) Turner. He was the last of ten children, seven boys and three girls. He received his formal education in the Winnfield, La. school district.

Arthur left Winnfield High School at an early age to seek employment. He briefly worked at a car wash then as a puck wood driver at a local paper mill. In 1955, he moved to Waterbury, Connecticut with his two older brothers the late Lionel and Ed Lee Turner. Immediately upon arrival to Waterbury, he worked as part of the clean-up crew during the Great Flood of 1955 then moved on to work several labor/factory jobs. During that time met the love of his life, the late Mary Lee Turner and on September 28, 1958 they were united in holly matrimony and to this union three children were born. Always striving for better opportunities, Arthur landed a job as a welder with United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney retiring with 35 years of service. After enduring a brief illness in 2017, he moved to Virginia to live with his daughter and grandsons.

A devoted and caring father, he valued his family as his most prized possession. He was a very grateful man, had a heart of gold, gave unselfishly and was always willing to help others in need. His spiritual journey began and remained with Zion Baptist Church. He loved God, life and people and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

He is survived by son; Arthur "Junie" (Erica) Turner Jr. of Rincon GA., daughter Denise Turner Knox of Newport News, VA., daughter in law, Rachel Turner of Gibsland, LA., 7 grandchildren; Melvin, Kendrick Knox, Jade, Lance, Keldrick Sr., Kendrell and Kearra Turner, 8 great grandchildren; Keldrick Jr., Kirsten, Kevin, Dakota, Armond, McKenzie, Serene Turner, Ju'Kyza Stromile; one sister; Everlene Gibson of Louisiana, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by son Rev. Kevin Carl Turner.

The family of Arthur Turner would like to express their sincere thanks to all of you for the many expressions of love and sympathy shown to them during this difficult time of bereavement.
