Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Mary by adding your memories and photos.

Mrs. Mary E. (Minnis) Lewis, 89, of Waterbury, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at Abbott Terrace Health Center. She was the widow of the late Jeremiah Lewis.
Mrs. Lewis was born March 25, 1931, in Waterbury, CT., a daughter to the late Frederick and Lillie (Gatling) Minnis.

Mary was educated in the Waterbury Public School System and graduated from Crosby High School. After high school, she became employed with Visiting Nurses until her retirement. She loved working as a caregiver and was known for her famous Chocolate Chip Cookies. Mary always made sure to keep in contact with her family by calling them every night and attending family get togethers during holidays and cookouts. She was a member of Mount Olive AME Church and also enjoyed reading her bible every night. Although she never had children of her own, she always watched and took great care of her nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all that loved and knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a sister; Margaret (Minnis) Hunter, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother; Frederick Minnis, Jr.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Mary, you were always there when I needed help. I will miss the days I took you grocery shopping and when I tried to get to buy an item on sale you always wanted to get the brand you always bought for years. I was happy when you gave me a smile the last time I visited you in February/2020. Still missing you. Deborah Hunter/Niece.

I will always be grateful for the care she gave my grandfather(her uncle Martin Gatling). She was a kind and giving person who will be missed by many.

Ms. Mary May you rest in eternal peace. I would like to thank you for loving my Grandmother as a sister. You were so gracious to me, my brothers, sisters and cousin when we would visit you on Walnut Street. I'll never forget your gentle and loving spirit. Til we meet again. Crystal Bolton (Hammonds)
