Message From The Family

Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please enhance this tribute to Cora by adding your memories and photos.

Ms. Cora Luveria "Nin" Myers, 86, Passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020, at Abbott Terrace Nursing Home, after a long illness.

Ms. Myers was born in Plymount, NC on December 25, 1933, a daughter to the late Mathew and Marion (Myers) Gatlin.

Cora was educated in the Creswell School System, where she exercised her gift for singing in competitions. At an early age she received Jesus as her Savior and became an active member of St. John Missionary BaptistChurch in Creswell, where she sang on the Ladies Chorus.

In her mother's words, "Nin was spoiled rotten" by her aunt and namesake Cora Luveria Dinkins. Aunt Cora showered her niece with love, attention, gifts, compliments and loads of fashionable clothes.Cora grew from a petite, extremely strong-willed child to a confident, hard- working adult with a tiny mean streak.

Cora, taking responsibility as a single mom, worked as a housekeeper to support her children, Betsy Loretta, James, and Arnita Claire. On September 3, 1963 she married Alfred Myers and the little family relocated to Poughkeepsie, NY briefly and later settled in Torrington, CT and began working for the Torin Company until retirement. In 1991, she stepped up and moved to Waterbury to care for her 4 grandchildren after the passing of her daughter Betsy Loretta.

"Nin", possessed a feisty personality, she loved people, was always friendly and loved to help others. She was very sociable. Her hobbies included singing, dancing, flirting, decorating her long natural nails and showing off her interesting taste in fashion. She has been described by some of her family as a "strong little giant", "outspoken, very, extremely outspoken" and that she had a little, just a little mean streak.

She leaves to celebrate the memory of her life a son; James Gatlin, Waterbury, Ct; two granddaughters; Ebony Gatlin (her caregiver) and Tanya; four grandsons Jayvone Gatlin, James Gatlin, Jr., Eric Allen Mobley and Darcel; four great-grandsons Tayvaughn Washington, Muhammad Allen, Ezrah Allen and Willie, Jr.; four great-granddaughters Malasia, Eunique and twins Heaven and Nevaeh Martin; two brothers Mathew Gatlin, Sr. of Blackwood, NJ and John Gatlin of Salisbury, MD and one sister AnLaVonne Gatlin-Respass of Astoria of New York and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and extended family.

Cora Luveria was predeceased by her two daughters, one sister Kathleen Gatlin-Pittman, one brother William S. Gatlin, Sr.' both parents and stepfather Thomas Wilson Tatem

We praise Jesus for her life and legacy.

Here is a poem she composed 12/25/2001
Life & Dreams
Sometimes dreams die just like people do.
The difference is that the dreamer is always greater than the dream.
You can always replace an old dream with a new one--
What you can't replace is a Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, Grandkids, the rest of your Family.
But most of all LOVE that is offered to you by an open heart.

Cora L. Gatlin Myers
