Tribute & Message From The Family

Mary B. Hill, 78, returned to her heavenly home on December 13, 2017 after a valiant battle with illness. Her devotion to her family and her belief in God supported her and ultimately gave her peace.

Mary was borne to the late Ervin and Ellen Ross, in North Carolina on September 30, 1939. She attended the public-school system in Robinsonville, North Carolina. She moved from North Carolina to Connecticut in 1958. She worked 40+ years with Danbury Hospital where she worked her way through the employment ranks from dietary aid to catering and ultimately as a one-on-one patient care staff. Mary is popularly known for her infectious laugh and how she was always front and center to lend a hand. She loved to sew, cook, bake and shop. She was avidly known by those who loved her as "Mrs. T" because of the jewelry she wore.

Mary was a long time dedicated member of New Bethel Church of God in Christ where she faithfully served under the leadership of Pastor Elder Henry N. White, Sr. for twenty-five years. She also raised up her children and grandchildren in the church. Even in illness her faithfulness continued, and her labor of love never ceased. She served on the Pastor's Aide Committee, as the Vice President of the Women's Department, member of the Women's Choir and Gospel Chorus. Two of her favorite songs to sing were "He Saw the Best" and "Just Another Day that the Lord has Kept Me".

She is pre-deceased by her parents, the late Ervin and Ellen Ross, her husband, Charles Hill, Sr., her son, Charles "little Ray" Hill, Jr., her siblings: James Ross, Jimmy Ross, Smiley Ross and Will Ross. She leaves to celebrate her life her children: Grace Hill (Stamford, CT), Monica James (North Carolina) and Marvin Hill (Waterbury, CT); her grandchildren: Monique Hill (North Carolina), Charles "CJ" Hill, III (Danbury, CT), Walter White, Jr. (Florida), Courtney Hill (Stamford, CT); and 6 great grandchildren; her siblings: Martha (Charles) Spinner, John (Iraneide) Ross of Danbury, CT; Anne (Sterling) Bunns, Magalene (Robert) Howell, Ruby (Elvin) Jackson, Linda (Rodney) Glover, Dora (Ray) Daniels, Betty Jean (Bobby) Wooten, Donnie "Ray" (Donna) Ross, and Edna Mae Barnhill all of North Carolina; Donna (David) Rogers (TN); Ethel Brown (Washington, DC); and a host of nieces and nephews
